Warith International Cancer Institute, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has announced the successful execution of a precise and rare endoscopic intervention—one of the first of its kind in the Middle East—ending the suffering of a 53-year-old female patient through the foundation’s Gastroenterology Center.

According to an official statement received by the shrine's official website, Warith International Cancer Institute, operating under the Health and Medical Education Authority at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, successfully performed a delicate and rare endoscopic procedure at the Middle East level. The intervention ended the suffering of a 53-year-old female patient coming from the capital, Baghdad, via the foundation’s Gastroenterology Center.

The statement clarified that the patient was suffering from an obstruction at the junction between the bile duct and the small intestine following a previous surgical resection of the pancreas and duodenum due to a tumor. This prior surgery had completely altered her digestive tract, creating a major barrier to reaching the site of the obstruction using conventional endoscopes.

It added that after her previous treatments had been limited to external percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC) as a temporary measure, the medical team succeeded in performing an enteroscopy-assisted endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (Enteroscopy-assisted ERCP). The team accurately reached the point of blockage and carried out the necessary dilation, successfully restoring normal bile drainage. This achievement reflects the advanced level of medical and technical development that the Holy Shrine strives to deliver in service to all citizens.
