Conclusion of the first day’s proceedings of the second preliminary international conference commemorating the millennium of the Hawza of Najaf al-Ashraf
The Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine has concluded the activities of the first day of the second preliminary international scientific conference, held to commemorate the millennium of the Najaf Hawza.
The conference is organized by the Sheikh Al-Tusi Center for Studies and Research—part of the Supreme Committee for the Revival of Heritage at the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine—in collaboration with the Al-Ameed Scientific and Intellectual Society, Al-Kafeel University, the University of Kufa, and the Imam Al-Kadhem College (Najaf branches). Titled "The Scientific and Intellectual Contributions of the Najaf Hawza from the 9th to the 12th Century AH," the event is part of the broader millennium commemoration of the Hawza, held under the auspices of the holy shrines in Iraq, and continues through Thursday and Friday.
The opening proceedings were attended by His Eminence Sayed Ahmed Al-Safi—a prominent scholar at the Najaf Hawza—along with officials from the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, as well as various Hawza figures, researchers, and individuals interested in the study of religious sciences.
The program featured an address by His Eminence Sayed Al-Safi, followed by a statement on behalf of the scientific and preparatory committees delivered by Dr. Sayed Abdul-Hakim Al-Safi. Additionally, a documentary film was screened, showcasing the preparations made by the Supreme Committee for the Hawza’s millennium, and several new publications—produced by the Supreme Committee for the Revival of Heritage—were unveiled, focusing on the scholarly legacy of prominent figures from the Najaf Hawza between the 9th and 12th centuries AH. The first day’s proceedings featured the conference’s opening research session, during which four papers were presented and discussed: the first, titled "Approaches to Rijal (Biographical Evaluation) in the Work of the Author of *al-Muntaqa*," by Sayed Ghaith Shubbar; the second, "Sheikh Muhammad bin Ali al-Ardabili and His Book *Jami‘ al-Ruwat*," by Sheikh Muhammad al-Qa’ini; the third, "Principles of Rijal Evaluation According to Sheikh Abdullah bin al-Husayn al-Tustari (d. 1021 AH): An Exposition and Analysis," by Sheikh Jasim al-Fahdi; and the final paper, "An Investigation into the Concept of *Dalil al-Ta’assi* (Evidence from Exemplary Conduct)—Its Nature and Role in Legal Deduction—as Viewed by the Author of *al-Mudrak*," by Sheikh Abbas Ali al-Zarei al-Sabzawari.
The commemoration of the millennium of the Najaf Hawza —which coincides with the anniversary of the arrival of Sheikh Abu Ja‘far Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Tusi in this holy city in 448 AH—serves as an opportunity to highlight the civilizational and scholarly role of the city of Najaf and its blessed Hawza, while shedding light on its historical and cultural contributions to the trajectory of the Islamic nation.
