The Family Culture Center organizes an awareness workshop on child-rearing

The Family Culture Center, affiliated with the Office of the Senior Official for Women's Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, organized an awareness workshop titled "Aware Mentor."

The activities coordinator at the center, Ms. Ikhlas Jawad, said that the workshop targeted mothers with children from newborns to the age of six, aiming to enhance their educational awareness and to inform them about the differences between care and attention on one hand, and excessive intervention in the child's life on the other.

She added that the workshop included an awareness lecture presented by the counselor Fatima Al-Ibrahimi, which discussed the concept of educational overprotection and its forms that may arise from fear and excessive caution, such as making decisions on behalf of the child and preventing them from experimenting. She explained that excessive intervention could affect the child's self-confidence, decision-making ability, and independence.

Jawad explained that the lecture also addressed how to achieve a balance between setting boundaries and protecting the child, giving them an appropriate space for choice, experimentation, and learning, as well as their psychological and educational needs in the early years, including emotional security, containment, play, and exploration.

She indicated that the workshop included a segment on "Behavior Modification in Children" presented by the counselor Zainab Fatemi, which addressed the most common behaviors at this stage, including stubbornness, tantrums, and refusal to follow orders. It emphasized the importance of understanding the reasons behind the behavior before attempting to modify it, and adopting calmness, clear boundaries, positive reinforcement, and teaching the child alternative behaviors.

Jouad pointed out that the workshop allowed mothers to discuss a number of educational situations related to the early childhood stage and to answer questions raised by daily practices with children.
