Ali ibn Musa al-Rida (148–203 AH / 765–818 CE), the eighth Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt (a), known as al-Ridha — “the one accepted”. Born in Medina, he was appointed heir apparent by the caliph al-Ma’mun and is buried in Mashhad, Iran, where his shrine stands.
