A father kept part of his daughter’s marriage dowry and added it to his personal funds without her permission or relinquishment. What is the ruling on this money? What should the daughter do to reclaim it? And what is your guidance to fathers who take their daughters’ dowries for themselves?
Answer
In the name of Allah, fathers must understand that the dowry is the exclusive property of the daughter and it is not permissible to withhold or use it without her consent. It is never considered the father's property. The daughter should try to reclaim her dowry in a respectful manner, even if it means seeking the help of close relatives such as her mother, brother, uncle, or maternal uncle. Allah is the Guide, and He knows best.
