In the name of Allah, my son, be informed that relieving the distressed and other good deeds are not sufficient for atonement by themselves. They should be accompanied by repentance which is met only by regret and giving up that particular sin and all the other ones. This can only be done by gaining piety because Allah Almighty says “Verily Allah accept from the pious”. Therefore, any deed will not be accepted from the non-pious people. The narrations, which refer to the meaning which you have indicated, should be looked into in the light of the Quranic verses and narrations of the shari’a. Allah is the All-Guide and All-Knowing.
