Allah Almighty says "Make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You." Prophet Abraham asked Allah to make him and his descendants Muslim after making him an Imam (leader) and then he asked Allah to make this to his descendants. "My covenant does not include the wrongdoers." Can we have a clarification for the rank "Muslim to You"?
Answer
In the name of Allah, be informed my son that the meaning of "Muslim" in the holy verse –Allah knows best- is the obedient and submissive to the commands of Allah Almighty, and it is the act of a Muslim, but with an ability endowed by Allah, glory be to Him, and success from Him, Almighty. So, Abraham and Ismail (Peace be our Prophet, his family and them) asked Allah for success and ability to be obedient and submissive. This meaning is referred to by the holy verse "When his Lord said to him, "Submit," he said, "I have submitted [in Islam] to the Lord of the worlds." and what is meant by the term Muslim is not only sound belief. Allah knows best.
