Does the Quranic statement "And what is the life of this world except amusement and diversion" encompass even what is usually described as serious work, not just amusement and play in the conventional sense?
Answer
In the name of Allah, the description of worldly life as amusement and diversion is in terms of the fact that the ultimate purpose of worldly beings, being worldly, is confined to what a person gains from such an act, even if it's a serious endeavor. This is because the worldly life is not everlasting, as evident. This might be manifested in the Quranic verse: "But the Hereafter is indeed the real life". Allah is the Guide.
