Are sons of Al-Abbas (PBUH) regarded as Sayed? I would like to have an answer for this because it affects my sister’s marriage.

In the name of Allah, be advised, my son, that being a Sayed means two things: First: the one who belongs to Hashim (PBUH) by lineage. This one is forbidden to have the alms which are given by the non-Sayed to the Sayed, and other relevant rules concerning the women. This meaning includes all the sons of the Commander of the Faithful along with the sons of his brothers. Second: the one who belongs to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) through the lineage of Lady Zahraa and Imam Ali (PBUT). This meaning is more honored than the first. Allah knows best.
