A believing sister who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder during ablution in such a way that she repeats the ablution with prayer many times until she reaches the point of fatigue – sometimes. Some fortunetelling women told her that this is the touch of a demon, and her remedy is to visit Syed Ali ibin Al-Hussein in the city of Al-Mahaweel at certain times. What is her religious ruling in ablution? Is what the women said true? What is your advice to her, noting that she has a high educational attainment?
Answer
In the name of Allah, the one who is afflicted with obsessive-compulsive disorder is obeying the devil if he is inclined to the disorder. To get rid of this disorder is to follow the orders of the religious authority after making sure of that the religious authority is qualified. Should you doubt the purity of something, you may follow the ruling od the religious authority. You will never get rid of the obsessive- compulsive, if you are still questioning. Do not depend on the fortunetelling women. The Quranic verse prohibits this, as in "fortunetelling women casting spells by blowing onto knots".
