After my marriage, half a year later, my mother-in-law and sister got married and after their marriage a few days later I got depressed and I suffered a lot. I decided to get rid of it through involving in education. However, at the end of my pregnancy and even after delivery about a year and a half, I got more depression and the obsession of cleanliness and impureness when entering the bathroom; I consider any drop of water I have or feel when I go to toilet or wash my hands impure, and as a consequence I wash half of my body often. Sometimes, I have a full washing. Furthermore, my face is oily and I have zits due to the effect of depression that I recently have started to wash it with soap more than once until I remove the oily substance, a matter that takes much time from me. In case I have to wash, I will spend more than an hour in washing; washing my hands so much that it cracked and hurt. All these things caused me a lot of psychological damage. I had nervousness, stress and negligence in my religious and family duties. I hate going out for a walk or for religious and social occasions and I hate to take care of my child I considered her to be the reason for this. Since I got pregnant with her, I have had a feeling of not loving her. I tried to avoid the topic of hygiene but I am very afraid that I am doing the wrong thing. Sometimes, I cannot control my nervousness and I am afraid that Allah will not respond to my supplication. I have done things to reduce this subject and I get a little better but after a while I cannot control myself and return to the starting point. I see I want to go back to what I was without thinking about these topics. My psyche is very tired, the natural person does not think all day about these topics?
Answer
In the name of Allah, if the obsessiveness is in the matter of religious purity and impurity, be advised, my daughter, that the one who cares in the aforementioned obsessiveness, s/he obeys Satan, and you have to abide by the fatwa of those religious authorities who you follow after making sure of taqleed. If you mean obsessive illusions and fantasies, then be advised, my daughter, that this way of obsessiveness is due to weakness of mind, and the weakness of the power of will. So you have to be strong in the face of these illusions. I advise you to read 100 verses from the Qur'an every night before going to bed and to say "There is no power but and no resort but to the Almighty Allah". Allah is the All Helper.
