Is it permissible for an employee to receive a salary during the COVID-19 lockdown period even if they are not performing work during that time?
Answer
In the name of Allah, if the contract between the administration and the employee is like a contract with a driver, where payment is due only if the work (e.g., transporting a student) is performed, then the employee earns the wage according to the actual work done if conditions allow it. However, if the contract stipulates that the employee is entitled to the salary whether they work or not due to an obstacle imposed by the administration, as in general government jobs, then the employee is entitled to the full salary. Allah knows best.
